For 114 years, UMFS has been helping children and families in Virginia find hope. Through our treatment foster care program, foster parents and children find one another and often go on to become adoptive families. Through our residential treatment programs at the Child & Family Healing Center and Leland House, girls and boys overcome trauma and heal. Through Charterhouse School, students with special needs and autism find help and success. And through Project LIFE, teens aging out of foster care in Virginia find new skills and a voice. Family Preservation at Richmond Department of Social Services provides assistance to families with children who are in need of emergency and supportive services to strengthen families to enable them to remain independent in their homes and to keep children safe and well. A range of services are offered including those that minimize the risk of homelessness, improve family communication, meet family goals and prevent out of home placement of children.

Healthy Families Richmond is one of many national and statewide evidence-based home visiting programs using the official Healthy Families model. It provides expectant and new parents with the education, community resources and tangible support they need to help their families thrive. Services are offered voluntarily, intensively and over the long-term (Prenatal until 3 years of age after the birth of the baby) and are free-of-charge.

First Home Care enables individuals to receive the care they need in their homes and communities, and reduce the need for hospitalization and out-of-community placement. Using strength-based and family focused approaches, they develop programs which build on and improve the successes of the individuals we serve. Their clinical and case management staff members utilize strength-based and skill-building approaches to engage children and adults to support their successes at home, in school, and in the community.

Family Insight is a group of professionals that are committed to treating individuals and families that suffer from mental illness in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Staff is diversely trained and credentialed to meet virtually any type of mental health treatment need in a community based setting. Clinicians work to identify strategies to reduce family stress, implement behavior treatment programs, and teach parents skills to manage their children’s behavior. Individual and family interventions are provided in the home to meet the needs of the child and the family. All services are provided through practiced, evidence-based and client focused interventions.

C2ADOPT is an innovative leader in the adoption community with a full array of trauma-informed, adoption competent counseling and assessment services, including support groups. C2 staff are available to provide training to groups of all sizes and help treatment providers, schools, childcare agencies, and parents better understand the unique needs of children and families in foster care and adoption. Adult adoptees and birth/first parents may benefit from their trainings, counseling services and their support groups. Services are available to anyone impacted by adoption or foster care. They welcome single, married, and LGBT families to explore services with us.

All Family Matters, Inc.

All Family Matters, Inc. now offers four programs for individuals and families. Their Intensive In-Home Service offers individual and family/counseling therapy, crisis intervention, and case management services to children 3-18 years with a mental health diagnosis or behavioral disorder. The Mental Health Skill-Building Program offers case management and supportive counseling to adults 18 and over with a mental health diagnosis. Their Therapeutic Day Treatment Program serves children ages 3 to 16 with behavioral disorders and mental health diagnoses that are not able to manage appropriate behavior within traditional settings. This program will not be operating during the summer of 2014. We are also offering a group home for adult individuals with intellectual disability.
